About Reduxio Systems.

Redoxio is an enterprise company that redefined data management and protection with the unified primary and secondary storage platform. Reduxio provided a breakthrough storage efficiency and performance, and the unique ability to recover data to any second.
When I joined Reduxio 2015,  the management platform existed and designed by another designer.
One of the biggest challenges I faced was to implement new features in the platform based on the user experience and the existing design.

Overview.

NoRestore™ leverages Reduxio’s unique data virtualization technology to create continuous incremental copies of volume data from a source Reduxio system to a repository on a remote storage destination.

Project Goals and Challenges.

The goal was to define and design a new feature called NoRestore™. This feature allows the user to backup and restores data from different devices.
My challenge was to understand the functional behavior of how NoRestore™ is being managed in the Reduxio system.
My main goal was to define and design the new feature based on the existing design, simplify the configuration screen and create simple flow for backup and restoring the data.

User flow

To manage backup or restore data, the administrator will have to set the configuration on the settings screen.
After finishing the configuration, the user could set up a backup window or policies and starting backing up or restoring the data from the NoRestore™ screen.

Remote Storage UX Flow.

Remote storage UX

To start using the feature, first of all, the user had set up remote storage.
One of the biggest questions I had to deal with was where the user should do the configuration; on the same screen, he is backing up his data or on the settings screen. I decided that because there was a setting screen on the platform where the user did all the system configuration, the best place to set up a backup repository configuration was on the setting screen.
After the setup finished, the user had to go to the NoRestore™ screen and start to back up his data.

Backup & Restore UX Flow.

NoRestore™ UX

After brainstorming with the team and a few UX mockups, I understood that the central part of the platform is the list of volumes holding the data.

We used a drag and drop behavior to connect volumes to hosts on our platform. I decided to preserve this behavior in the new feature by connecting the volumes to the backup area using drag and drop on the same screen showing the volumes. This created a simple way to backup the volumes.

Backup & Restore UI.

The main challenge was to find a color palette that works with the blue and green from the older version. I also had to design new icons for the new feature and a mini dashboard that will fit the original design.

Dashboard UI Options.

The main challenge was to define which data the administrator needs to understand the backup status, which information is the most important, and to organize the data coherently.

Reduxio HX550 Review

This browser-based GUI is simple to use and intuitive. Users can also easily check the status of their backups here. The GUI gives information such as total data protected, used space, alerts, the ability to stop the data transfer, and the ability to search other transfers.
From here we create a backup task of our Sysbench test and begin to run the backup to see just how quickly we can restore it.
